Hushpuppy Gallery, located at 379 Woodward Ave. SE, just one block south of Oakland Cemetery and Six Feet Under, is a labor of love from Jason Drakeford and Erin Dutton. Drakeford and Dutton are themselves artists and both share a passion for all flavors art. “I am especially drawn to whimsical and unusually beautiful art; art with cozy little worlds, simplicity with meaning, subtle beauty, and a little debauchery.” (Dutton) We see this in Hushpuppy…. a nest of creativity, a mingling of creative spirits and a place to inspire those who visit.
Our first show was on November 3rd - December 12th 2007. The gallery featured artist Meta Gary who creates splendid little creations filled with pieces of dreams, fanciful animals and magical places. Her imagination and artistic manifestations inspire the masses. In addition to original art, Hushpuppy Gallery also offers great gifts, funky t-shirts, and an array of hand crafted items.
